What was your path to becoming a certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner? What inspired you to choose this profession?
There are a lot of distinct paths within the mental health profession. I was drawn to the role of nurse practitioner as a way to make mental healthcare more accessible. As a nurse practitioner, I'm able to prescribe medication and conduct therapy, providing a comprehensive treatment plan for clients who prefer to just see one provider and, in other cases, work as a collaborative team. As a nurse, I consider clients in the full context of their lives, helping to explore the intersection of health, behavior, and environment.
What would you want someone to know about working with you?
Finding the right fit is essential to effective therapy. Before getting started, we'll connect over the phone for a 10–15-minute call to make sure that my practice aligns with what you're looking for in treatment. We'll then work together to create a safe, nonjudgmental, and collaborative environment in which you can begin to address specific goals by building on your strengths and developing helpful insights and strategies to create change. I draw from the foundation of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and weave in techniques rooted in mindfulness, compassion, and often humor.

If there was one thing you wish people knew about the therapy experience who might be hesitant to try it, what would that be?
Sometimes it’s helpful to consider what therapy is not. Therapy is not advice. Therapy is not “complaining.” Therapy is not always easy. Therapy is a dynamic relationship between client and provider. It is a place where you can begin to feel safe in being vulnerable, work toward healing and growing, and learning about yourself and the way you interact with others and the world around you.
What excites you most about the evolving mental health landscape?
I am excited about helping clients fit mental health into their lives and improving access to excellent care, whether through telehealth appointments, flexible scheduling, or working with clients to remove barriers like cost.
If you could pick one or two books that influenced your approach to therapy what would they be and why?
Two books that inform the way I practice therapy are Beyond Religion: Ethics for a Whole World by XIV Dalai Lama and The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma by Bessel van der Kolk. While vastly different in scope, each of these books eloquently illustrates the ways in which we interact with others, the world around us, and ourselves.
