Question 1

What happens in a couples therapy session?

Accepted Answer

If you have never done couples therapy, it is natural to wonder what the hour will be like. It depends on the therapist, so the clearest way to know is to ask the person you are considering. Most will want to hear what brought you in and what each of you hopes changes. On Alma, you can browse therapists in Long Beach who work with couples.

Question 2

Will the therapist take my partner's side?

Accepted Answer

Worrying that the therapist will side with your partner is a fair thing to ask about directly. A licensed therapist can explain how they stay balanced when two people disagree in the room and what you can do if a session feels lopsided. On Alma, you can raise it with therapists in Long Beach who work with couples before you book anything.

Question 3

Does my partner need to come every time?

Accepted Answer

If one of you cannot make every session, that does not have to stop you. Ask a therapist how they handle missed joint sessions and when they would meet with one partner alone. In Alma's Long Beach directory, filter therapists who work with couples and compare how each one describes their setup.

Question 4

How do I bring up couples therapy with a reluctant partner?

Accepted Answer

Sometimes a partner is unsure because they do not know what it involves. Reading how a therapist describes their sessions can help. Ask whether they would meet with you first and how they would welcome your partner later. In Alma's Long Beach directory, filter for therapists who work with couples and look at a few together.

Question 5

Is couples therapy only for married partners?

Accepted Answer

Whatever stage you are at, what you want to work on is what matters. A therapist can tell you how they work with partners who are dating, engaged, or living together. In Alma's Long Beach directory, filter for therapists who work with couples, then reach out with a short note about where you are.

Question 6

Does insurance cover couples therapy in Long Beach?

Accepted Answer

Cost matters, and couples sessions are not always billed the same way as individual ones. Coverage depends on your plan and on how the session is billed, so confirm the details with the therapist. Alma verifies your benefits up front so you see your expected cost before you book. On Alma, filter therapists in Long Beach who work with couples by your insurance.

Question 7

Is online couples therapy an option in Long Beach?

Accepted Answer

Meeting online can make it easier to find a time you can both make. Therapists licensed in California who offer virtual sessions can see you while you are in California, which helps when your schedules only overlap in the evening. On Alma, browse therapists who work with couples and check the formats listed on each profile.

Question 8

How do I find therapists in Long Beach who work with couples without searching all of LA County?

Accepted Answer

A county as big as Los Angeles can make the search feel endless, so it helps to start close. Search from Long Beach first, and check Huntington Beach, Anaheim, and Irvine, since Orange County may be closer than the rest of LA. Virtual sessions widen the list. Filter the Long Beach list for therapists who work with couples and compare office addresses.
