Question 1

What is somatic therapy?

Accepted Answer

It helps to know what you are choosing before you book. Somatic therapy is a family of body-based talk therapies built on the idea that distress shows up physically as much as in thought, so the work attends to what happens in your body as you talk. A therapist can explain how they use it. On Alma, you can filter for it directly in Tustin.

Question 2

What actually happens in a somatic therapy session?

Accepted Answer

Knowing what to expect can make the first session easier. Early sessions usually cover what brings you in and what steadies you. From there you notice sensation as you talk and moving attention between something difficult and something settled. Ask how they keep the pace manageable. On Alma, therapists in Tustin who offer somatic therapy describe how they work on their profiles.

Question 3

Will a somatic therapist use touch?

Accepted Answer

If touch is a concern, raise it early. Some therapists use no touch at all, and others may suggest it with consent. Ask how they handle consent and what the alternatives are. On Alma, read profiles of therapists in Tustin who offer somatic therapy and put the question to them when you reach out.

Question 4

How do I know a therapist is really trained in somatic therapy?

Accepted Answer

If training matters to you, it is worth checking. Alma's filter reflects what each therapist lists on their own profile, so treat it as a starting point, not a credential check. Ask where they trained and how often they use it. Somatic covers several distinct trainings, so it is worth asking which one. Read a few profiles in Tustin on Alma first.

Question 5

Do therapists who offer somatic therapy near Tustin count if the address says Santa Ana?

Accepted Answer

An address in a neighboring city can look farther than it is. Look for therapists who offer somatic therapy in Tustin, then in Santa Ana, Irvine, and Orange, and judge each office by the drive from your street. On Alma, filter by insurance and in-person format before narrowing.

Question 6

Will my insurance pay for somatic therapy in Tustin, CA?

Accepted Answer

Cost is often the thing that decides whether you start at all, so it helps to know early. Your plan and the clinician you choose set what you pay, not the method itself. Alma checks your benefits before you book and shows your expected cost, and you can narrow therapists in Tustin to those in-network with your plan.

Question 7

Is online somatic therapy an option in Tustin, CA?

Accepted Answer

If getting to an office is the hard part, it makes sense to check this first. Therapists licensed in California who offer virtual sessions can see you online while you are in California. Ask how they adapt somatic therapy to video before you start. On Alma, filter therapists in Tustin for virtual sessions and compare a few profiles.
